Snorkelling and Diving

Snorkelling

Snorkelling is a must do activity whilst out on charter and we can direct you to all the great spots around the National Park islands. Many of the islands have fringing reefs that offer excellent coral reefs right off the beach or accessible by swimming from your boat or tender. See Turtles, Manta Rays, Maori Wrasse and many smaller tropical fish – including Nemo!

Snorkelling Gear Provided

All snorkel gear is complimentary as part of your charter and supplied by Aqua Dive here at Coral Sea Marina. Their staff will fit you out with custom sizes for masks, snorkels and fins and give a brief overview on how to get the best out of your snorkelling experience. Wetsuits & Stinger suits are also available for hire (stinger suits are recommended between November and April)

Our Favourite Snorkelling Spots

  • Langford Island
  • Blue Pearl Bay
  • Luncheon Bay
  • Bali Hai/Black Island
  • Saba Bay
  • Maureens Cove

Diving

The Whitsundays are blessed with many bays and coves which are well protected from prevailing winds and ocean swells, giving scuba divers ease and peace of mind when exploring new territory – not to mention the outstanding abundance of marine life and coral reefs found around the islands.

Experienced Divers (PADI or SSI certified)

If you prefer the freedom of discovering the underwater world by your own lead and are a certified diver, then why not hire your own gear and explore the wonders yourself?

Full or part dive gear can be hired from the marina dive shop, Aqua Dive, and tanks are easily stowed on board.

Open Water Dive Certification

Open water dive certifications from most of the world’s certifying agencies are recognised in Australia. While PADI and SSI are the most common, we often see divers certified through BSAC, CMAS, NAUI and other agencies.

If you are in doubt about whether your qualification will be recognised, contact Aqua Dive before your sailing holiday to confirm.

Dive Gear Rental (full set, including wetsuit & 2 tanks)

5 nights: $170
7 nights: $200
10 nights: $275

Dive Safety

It is recommended you always take a buddy when diving new areas and have a watchkeeper keeping an eye from above the water. Even though the Whitsundays are calm and protected tides can still be an issue, therefore please have a chat with the experienced staff at Aqua Dive when you pick up your gear who will be able to offer a wealth of knowledge and advise on getting the best experience out of your diving adventures.
